Journeys End

Well that's it for this project. Everything's finished and handed in and I must say I've enjoyed the whole project and learned a lot. I've really liked the whole CAD/CAM process and I've found using the blog a great way to keep the creative process flowing, it's certainly something I'll use again in the future.

I guess all that's left is for me to post a picture of the final product.....'Bye 'till next time...

Nearly There....

It's been a few days since I've updated my blog but I've made a lot of progress in that time. I've almost finished painting my usb stick after a couple of attempts that didnt go quite so well. I've produced two copies of my packaging so that I can hand in with one sealed and one open. I've also nearly completed my display stand, so all in all it's looking pretty good...Roll on hand in day!

Making good progress

I've had an excellent couple of days progress. Yesterday I got my design through the 3D printers and I'm really pleased with the results, especially the fit of the lid. I also sketched my design for the packaging which I have just finished creating in Photoshop. Tomorrow I'm going to sublimate my design onto the foil and prepare my usb stick for painting.

Designs ready for prototyping

Well after wrestling with Creo for 2 hours I've finally got my design refined enough to go to the 3D printer on Monday. Hopefully there won't be any issues with my design and I can concentrate on designing my packaging next week.

Success with Sublimation

I tested the sublimation process on my plastic coated foil on Friday and I am very happy with the results (which can be seen in Packaging Development). My next stage is to refine my CAD designs ready for prototyping next week.

I'm progressing pretty well with my project. I've explored several design possibilities and decided on the one which I'm going to develop further. My next stage is a bit of prototyping, I need to make a rough mock up of my design to check for any usability issues and I need to trial one of my packaging ideas to see if it is feasible. I will then be able to refine my ideas into my final design.

It's all clicking into place!

I'm quite pleased with my progress so far. I've explored a few different ideas and decided which avenue I'm going to explore further (see 'Initial Ideas'). I've also developed my drawing and rendering skills.

I've got to grips with the blogger and I've even managed to learn a bit on Photoshop (see 'Getting to grips with Creo').

I like the idea of the blog as it makes me put my ideas down on paper (or screen, as the case may be) rather than jumping ahead.

My first time blogging

Well this is my first time blogging....yet another piece of software to get used to! At the moment you'll probably find lots of empty pages and random things appearing on here but hopefully over the next few days I'll get to grips with it and start publishing some of the work I've been doing. To be honest I'm more worried about the blog than the CAD/CAM....

Please feel free to add comments once I get some actual work on here and I'll give you my thoughts if you want them.

Now lets see what happens when I press Publish....
